This week is Banned Book Week. As you may know, the number of book challenges has skyrocketed over the past 3 years. And it's happening everywhere, even in San Diego County. The good news is we can do something about it!
Check out these resources to learn more about censorship and what you can do as a family to ensure that everyone has access to books that provide windows, mirrors, and sliding doors.
As the American Library Association says, "part of the Banned Books Week celebration is the fact that, in a majority of cases, the books have remained available. This happens only thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, students, and community members who stand up and speak out for the freedom to read." So be sure to thank your school librarian and teachers for helping in this effort. 1. October 7 is Let Freedom Read Day! Check out what you can do to defend books against censorship.
