Our Mission is Simple.

We're here to ensure that our schools are affirming places where all children are able to thrive and be their best selves. We believe that in order for that to happen, we need to explore and address the inequities that exist (especially when it comes to race, gender, socioeconomic and family configuration issues) by addressing issues of diversity, equity and inclusion at school and at home.  This work depends on fostering relationships and developing community so that we can do the important, but sometimes uncomfortable work, of working towards change. We hope to learn about ourselves and each other so that we can work towards the collective good of all.

We know this is a big task, often emotionally charged and frequently sensitive for many families in our community. Our goal is to understand and advocate. We host parent education opportunities, host community gatherings, collaborate with schools and districts and attend school board meetings. We send out a monthly newsletter with timely information and best practices, as well as suggestions for how to get involved in your community, school and district.

Our mission is simple - to support all children and families, so they feel like they are seen, heard, respected and represented.

About Us

Families for Equity in Education is the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of the North Coastal Council of PTA’, which represents the PTAs in the Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas and San Dieguito school districts.

We were founded in 2021, during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, to support our communities, to help educate caregivers as to why DEI work is important and advantageous for all children and to advocate for our marginalized children.

We know this is a journey and work with the belief that, ultimately, this is about recognizing and honoring the humanity and inherent worth of each person in our community.
